Our story
About PubStayz
Born on the road, built around a cold beer, and powered by a community of travellers who love this country.
How this all started
If you trace it back, PubStayz was born the exact way a lot of good (and mildly dangerous) ideas are: sitting around after a long day on the road, a few cold beers in hand, looking at some of the best country Australia has to offer.
Earlier in July 2026, we were wrapping up a trip through South Australia. One week we were doing the rounds on a wine-tasting tour in the Barossa — rolling our rig into a donation camp in Greenock and heading down to the local for a proper pub meal. The next, we were admiring the raw, ancient landscape of the Flinders Ranges. We grabbed a feed at Blinman, stopped in for a cold beer at Hawker, and rolled into the Cradock Pub — which happens to have a massive paddock out the back specifically set up for self-contained camping.
Sitting there over a few more beers, looking at the setup and chatting about the logistics of towing a van through the backblocks, the conversation drifted into a simple question: Why isn't there an easy, no-bullshit directory that maps out pubs with camping, free spots nearby, and all the gear-friendly info travellers actually need?
After a nudge from the travelling mates, the "return to life" back home involved opening up a laptop instead of the usual tool bag — and PubStayz was born.
Support the locals
Every pub on this map is a community lifeline. We're here to help travellers find them and spend up.
Built by travellers
No marketing fluff. Just real info from people who've actually pulled up, parked the van, and had a cold one.
Community-powered
Every listing, review, and tip comes from the community. The more you contribute, the better it gets for everyone.
Passion project
No investors, no ads agenda. Just a love of the road and a desire to make the next trip a little easier to plan.
Who we are (and what to expect)
Let's be upfront: none of us are web designers.
By trade, we're blokes working in the construction industry. We know how to swing a hammer, run heavy gear, and wire up a site — but building a slick digital platform is a whole different kind of puzzle. So, if you click something and a button looks a bit crooked, or a page acts up — give us some grace. It's a pure passion project built by travellers, for travellers, to share with anyone else out there who loves hooking up the van and exploring our backyard.
Why PubStayz?
Outback and regional pubs are the literal heartbeat of the towns they're in. When you pull up, grab a counter meal, and have a yarn with the publican, you're helping keep these remote communities alive. At the same time, finding a decent patch of dirt to drop the stabilizers near a cold beer shouldn't feel like a treasure hunt.
PubStayz is a community-driven project. It's here to help you plan your next trip, find great spots to stay near iconic watering holes, and support the local pubs that make travelling this country so bloody good.
Jump in, share your favourite spots, and help us keep the map growing. See you out on the track!
